Summer mode has come to an end in our house. Summer started her first year of kindergarten this week. Being her birthday is at the cutoff we have decided she will do kindergarten at her current school and then repeat it next year in elementary. I think giving her that extra year will help her on her so many levels. Time to get serious Summer! Welcome to the world of schoolwork!
Summer has been in daycare full time since she was 5 months old. 8 hours a day/12 months a year. Sometimes I feel a bit bad that she doesn’t get a break but it truly has been the best thing for our family. Being an only child she has thrived being in a school setting. She has so many friends in her social circle and has developed the biggest personality. I have never regretted our decision for her to be a “daycare kid.” Her school has helped shape her into who she is today. Yes, there have been things I missed and I used to get really upset about that. Being a working parent is beyond challenging. But for us we have been able to give Summer so much more because of the sacrifices we have made. I think we have managed really well and I’m proud of where we are as a family. The choices weren’t always easy to make but seeing where we are now makes me truly happy and brings a great sense of accomplishment. So to the moms in the same boat as me….pat yourselves on your backs ladies because it’s not easy. We stress when the kids get sick because how will we care for them and get to work? (And we all know how hard it is to not be able to comfort our own little ones when they are sick.) We aren’t always able to get our kids on and off the bus. We don’t always get to make every school function. We don’t always get to be on the class trips. But you know what, the ones we do get to go on are extra special. And our little ones will grow up and admire the sacrifices we made for them I promise you that. I was raised this way and I always looked at my mom as the most hardworking driven woman in my life. And that’s not a bad thing at all. Stay tough working moms. Balancing a career and a family is no joke and there are times we all want to break down and cry. The pressure to manage it all can get heavy. So take each day, each challenge, each sacrifice and power through it. We are molding our children to be strong, hardworking people just like us.
As for the outfit…I tried to include some new finds that you haven’t seen. I told you I’m currently crushing on Express jeans. These are another pair I scooped up in petite length and they are so good! The 2 pairs I linked below are closet favs of mine!
And these sunnies! I bought a pair of Quay sunnies during the #nsale. I loved them so much that I caved and bought this pair as well.
These booties! Low, comfy. Need I say more? Obsessed!
Hope all your little ones had a great first week back at school. There’s nothing sweeter than scrolling through Facebook and seeing everyone’s pictures. As parents these are the memories we have to cherish. Seeing how our children bloom from September to June is remarkable. We have many years of “back to school” ahead of us but each one is so special to me. So with a new bookbag, new lunchbox, and pencils sharpened we are ready to take on KINDERGARTEN YEAR 1! And to my career mamas, when the year gets tough look back on this post, share it with your working mom friends…remember you aren’t alone.
