Our little firecracker turned 5 years old this past weekend! People always say time flies especially when you have kids and boy are they right. Sleepless nights, army crawling, first steps, babbling words, bribing with M&Ms to potty on her own, the big girl bed. Every stage has been a blessing. We only have one child so each milestone is extra sweet for us for these are the only times we will go through it. These past 5 years we have watched this little girl blossom into a shy, reserved girl into one who takes over a room when she walks in. I watch at how poised, polite and engaging she is with all that meet her even complete strangers in the grocery store. Our little Summer is really something so special. Every rule was broken when she was made. Tiny but fierce. Sassy but sweet. What a gift!
Every year we throw a huge party for Summer’s birthday. My birthday is in January and I always HATED my birthday being in the winter. Having a summer baby was extra joyful because I knew we would be able to have big summer bashes for her birthday. I LOVE to plan parties and truly have the best time making her wishes come to life.
A lot of organization and pre-planning goes into it. We start planning the party in June by asking for her theme and from there it begins! I break the day into 2 parties. The morning party we have her friends and the afternoon we have family and close friends stay to swim. This year Summer wanted Superhero Girls and let me tell you..what a FUN theme!
For this year’s entertainment I hired Eliot the Super Hero Magic Man . Could I not have found a more perfect entertainer?! A magician who dressed as a super hero! My Mom handmade all the capes and masks for the kids to wear. When each friend arrived they chose one to wear and take home. Having all these little super heros running around watching the show was priceless! For those in NJ looking for kids entertainment I cannot recommend Eliot enough. He was truly amazing and kids and parents LOVED him! He had a bunny and dove that were so cute and even Erik and his brother got in on the show. Eliot thank you so much!
After the entertainment the kids have pizza and cupcakes. The kid party then ends with a visit to the candy bar. Every year I set up the candy bar for the kids as part of their goodie bags. This is probably one of my favorite parts of planning. I love setting the table up and picking out the candy to go with the theme. So cute watching them all fill their bags up!
Once the kids leave our family arrives and we swim, have dinner and cake. It’s definitely a full day but seeing Summer so happy makes all the planning worth it. Erik says I like to have a sweet 16 party every year for our daughter and he’s right! I can’t help myself. If we had more kids maybe I wouldn’t go to such extremes (well maybe I would LOL) but because she is our only one she gets that extra dose of spoiling! Plus having a Mom who loves attention to detail and party planning works in her favor!
Thank you to everyone who celebrated with us but a special thank you to Erik for always going along with my plan, my Mom who makes so much for the party, my mother in law Joyce for making the salads and Summer’s Uncle Michael who has flown home from Hawaii 2 years in a row to spend Summer’s birthday with her. I couldn’t pull this party off without the help of my little army.
Until next year’s party!
XO!
