MY FIRST NYFW EVENT

Happy Valentine’s Day! Wishing you all a day of x’s and o’s and lots of hearts, candy and hugs! As you know I attended my first NYFW event last week. The event was for Midori Linea’s newest jewelry line and was held at the W Hotel Downtown in NYC. When I got the invite last month I had one of those moments of “Am I reading this right?” I saw the letters NYFW and my name and for a minute there I thought I was hallucinating. 

If I’m going to be honest it wasn’t exactly what I envisioned (more on that later) but it was an honor to be invited. I’ve only been blogging since May. I work on this blog nonstop at night and on the weekends. It literally has changed my life and how I manage my free time. It is always challenging to balance but right now my focus is to grow this blog and grow it has. I know my hard work and commitment has paid off. I see the numbers and followers climbing so I know I’m moving in the right direction but doubt still always linger. I guess that’s just part of life and growing your own business and brand.

This wasn’t the biggest event at NYFW. There wasn’t a showroom or a runway. But you know what? That’s totally ok. It was my first event that I personally got invited to and that my friends is an honor and self validation just for myself that I must be doing something right. So while others may think this wasn’t a big show or a big deal, it was for me. I was there with other bloggers, peers and fashion lovers and I loved every moment of it!

As for the jewelry. OMG it was gorgeous. Midori Linea hand makes her pieces and uses beautiful gemstones, precious stones mixed with gold and/or silver metals. Her pieces can all be layered. Think layered, delicate gold chains and bracelets. Just stunning, classic yet trending pieces.

The event itself was so chic and hip. Photographers walking around snapping our photos. Makeup and hair stations to get refreshed and a DJ setting the vibe with ultra cool music. I was excited to finally meet some blogger friends in person. These are all girls who have been on this same journey and it was so wonderful to finally see them outside of Instagram.

And my plus 1? My dear friend Jenn. She has been a great support since day 1 of launching my blog and I just knew she would enjoy having a girls night with me. So thank you Jenn for coming with me and believing in my dream. You’ve encouraged me so many times and I’m forever grateful for our friendship that just keeps getting better with time.

The biggest question I got when I told people I was going to this event was “What are you going to wear?!” And that definitely took some thinking. No stress over what to wear. It’s only NYFW LOL! When it came down to it I wanted to be comfortable, edgy but me. In true HOLB fashion I found some affordable pieces. A $35 bodysuit, $9 clearance earrings, OTK boots, and  jeans topped off with my signature designer bag completed my NYFW look. That’s what this blog is all about. Mixing highs and lows for everyday style. And that’s exactly what I did. I was me. BTW you can wear this bodysuit OTS or even 1 shoulder. So versatile.

I can only hope that this NYFW event was only the first of many to come. I’ll remember this one forever though. It was a start. A first — And you never forget those. Cheers to fashion and more great things to come for House of Leo Blog!
