When we throw a party, we throw a party. Nothing excites me more than finding out what Summer’s birthday party theme will be every year. Second favorite is finding out what she will be for Halloween. My creative juices start flowing like crazy. This year Summer decided on a mermaid party theme for her 6th birthday and I couldn’t be more excited being it was going to be her first pool party.
When I found I was pregnant and due in August one of the first things that got me excited was knowing I could plan outdoor parties. My birthday parties were always inside since I was born in January so having a summer baby was a dream come true. Even though we have had our pool a few years now we wanted to wait until her friends were a little older before having a full on swim party.
Anyone who knows us knows we go all out with details for Summer’s birthday party. If we had more than one kid it might not happen but being she’s our only one we get a little carried away with attention to detail. BUT it isn’t all me. It takes an a village to make these parties come to life. For more party inspo check out this post for when we had a superhero party for Summer.
For favors I always create a candy table. I think it’s a fun way to really expand on the theme and something the parents and kids can enjoy. I mean who doesn’t love candy?!
Being the party was mermaid theme I had bait that consisted of swedish fish, gummy worms and gummy octopus. I added in goldfish crackers and had a fish net to scoop the fish out. Seaweed consisted of sour apple straws and green apple licorice.
And so cute was this fish bowl made of blue jelly beans and swedish fish. My mom also makes chocolate covered pretzel sticks every year to match the colors of the party.
The decorations were easy this year. I ordered these fish nets off of Amazon and used them on the candy table and as a net to hold up the balloons.
And how easy to scatter seashells from the beach on the table for centerpieces.
To break up the swimming I booked an ice cream truck to come and the kids loved it! We debated what type of truck to get but Goldy’s was a perfect choice as they had all the novelty ice cream bars that little kids love.
We didn’t have the best weather but thankfully we got the kids party in with no rain! We had to move the family party inside later in the day but all in all it was a perfect mermaid party for our Summer girl.
A special thank you to my Mom who made the candy table backdrop, hanging jellyfish and the cake! I mean can you even with this cake?! The Cake Boss called me and wants to take her out of retirement and give her a job. Just kidding. But honestly, what a cake! And of course thanks to Erik my party partner, my mother in law for helping cook, our cousin Melody for life guarding and all our friends and family who celebrated with us.
Cheers to 6 my little mermaid!
Yes, you went all out but a great theme and fun party
We always have fun with her parties!
