I get so many requests to feature my mom on my blog. How does she dress? What does she wear? What does she like fashion wise? Today I’m partnering up with Stage Stores to celebrate Pink October by raising awareness for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. I’m telling my own #ipinkican story by sharing how I’m constantly inspired by this woman right here.
So those waiting to read about my mother’s fashion tips well I’m sorry to disappoint but the truth is I dress her. She gets my hand me downs (perks of having a daughter who is a fashion blogger). She is open ears and open eyes when I tell her the latest trends to incorporate into her wardrobe. She doesn’t get offended when I tell her something looks “too old for her” or I tell her not to want to grow up so fast and wear something I disapprove of (happens all the time lol).
My mother has guided me through life, always holding my hand, always being my supporter and from that we have built a friendship that is stronger than any friendship I have ever had. I have weathered many friendships throughout the years. Some grew stronger, some parted ways but the one constant in my life that has never weakened but only grew was the one with my mother. To be honest this is how our relationship has been my entire life.
You see her job of wiping away tears, putting band aids on scrapes, talking about the birds and the bees has come to an end. We can now celebrate our relationship as grown women and do what best friends do. I can style her, drink coffee with her, share a bottle of wine with her. This time in our life together is so beautiful. She can watch me be a mother and I can watch her be a grandmother and do all the things with Summer that she did with me. It brings back beautiful memories of when I was a little girl and it’s like I’m living it all over again.
The tables have turned and I now get to guide my mother in certain parts of life. Even if it’s just styling and creating outfits for her it is something we share together. And let me just tell you — we have so much fun doing it! She appreciates my passion for fashion and shares in every aspect of it. Always asking me if I need help, never missing a blog or Instagram post and still holding my hand all these years later as I make brave decisions. She has a way of turning my doubts into #ipinkican do this moments.
So even if it seems like nothing to someone else that I dress my mother it’s something for her. It makes her proud. It makes me proud. She carries a piece of me, a piece of my passion that she helped inspire around with her daily. It’s all part of our bond of what we share, what we love about each other and what we enjoy as two women best friends who happen to be mother and daughter.
This month join me and Stage Stores by sharing your own #ipinkican moments of inspiration. For each hashtagged moment on Facebook or Instagram during October, Stage will donate $1 to support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. You can find out more at Stage.com/ipinkican.
You can also get involved at your local Stage store or by shopping online at www.stage.com. There will be various events to take part in including the sales of “Pink” items with 50% of the purchase price from the sale of those items going to BCRF. My water bottle and my Mom’s makeup bags are all part of this sale.
It was a honor to take part in this campaign and celebrate the one woman in my life that has inspired me, continues to inspire me and will always inspire me. Celebrate those women in your own life who inspire you and help make it a Pink October!
