Something I’ve always wanted to do but never took the plunge was to get lash extensions. I love how they look and how they simplify getting ready for the day. Today I’m talking all about my lash extensions and answering all the FAQs you might have regarding them.
WHERE TO GET LASH EXTENSIONS?
Like with anything cosmetic I strongly believe you need to find a licensed professional to do these types of services. Whether it’s your hair, skin treatments or lashes you absolutely get what you pay for. A few month’s ago I had gotten my eyebrows microbladed by Clara at Modern Beauty Studio. You can read more about that post here and here. With the amazing job Clara did on my brows, her level of professionalism and her expertise I knew I would be in good hands going to her for my lash extensions.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO GET LASH EXTENSIONS?
The initial set will take the longest. My first appointment took about 3 hours. However, the fills take around an hour. I will talk about the fill process later in this post. I find the entire appointment to be very relaxing and usually dose off while Clara is doing her work!
WILL LASH EXTENSIONS DAMAGE MY NATURAL LASH?
Simply said they shouldn’t. However, that often depends on where you go for lashes and who is doing them. Not all salons will use the same quality of lashes so while you can go to your nail salon and get lashes put on odds are they may not be using high quality glue and lashes.
Clara uses some of the best glue and lash products on my lash extensions and all my natural lashes are intact. In fact the lashes she use look so real that you really can’t tell I have extensions other than my lashes are way fuller than they used to be.
WHO SHOULD GET LASH EXTENSIONS?
Well anyone can get lashes but there are lots of reasons to add them to your beauty routine. I am lucky enough that I have long lashes but I wanted to add volume and a more “ready” look without having to add lash strips or mascara on a daily basis. If you have short lashes you can instant length and volume by having lash extensions.
WHAT TYPE OF LASH EXTENSIONS SHOULD YOU GET?
A good lash artist will go over different lash options with you based on lifestyle, your eye shape and how often you can come in to get your fills. I opted for classic lashes my first few times because they look most natural. Think of them as enhancing what you already have but with a fuller look.
Often once you have had classics for awhile you may want to upgrade to full volume to add more length and drama. This is what I’ll be doing at my next appointment so I can report back on the difference. I will say that being I have hooded eyes the classic lash extensions don’t stand out that dramatically when looking at me straight on which is why I’m opting to go for full volume next time. However, classics are a great option to get you used to having lash extensions.
HOW OFTEN DO YOU GET LASH EXTENSIONS?
This is based on a few factors. Everyone has different retention meaning how much of the lash they will lose over the course of a few weeks. Most lash extensions need to be filled every 2-3 weeks. I have gotten over 4 weeks out of mine but do think 3 weeks is my sweet spot. It also depends on how you care for them which I will talk more about below.
HOW TO CARE FOR LASH EXTENSIONS?
Once you have lash extensions your face washing regimen will change. You can not use any soaps containing oil. I take my eye makeup off with this product and then use a brush mixed in this same soap to clean my lashes.
It is also important to brush your lashes daily when they are dry to help them maintain their shape. I just use one of those eyebrow spoolly brushes to comb through them daily. Lastly, you cannot use mascara on your extensions nor will you need to.
I hope these FAQs answered any of your lash extension questions you may have. If you have other questions feel free to leave them in the comments below.

I was going to do an Amazon Prime Day post but honestly I’m just wiped from all the NSale coverage. Just didn’t have it in me. I’ll have my monthly Amazon Haul coming your way this Sunday though but in case you missed last month’s haul you can check that out here. My blog schedule is a bit all over the place this week because of the NSale so I’ll be back either tomorrow or Wednesday with another Nordstrom try on haul! See this post for my NSale first day try on!
