Last year was hands down one of the most challenging years for our family. Summer left daycare and started kindergarten in a new school and I left my 15 year insurance career to blog full time. It was a year of changes that were exciting but also left me feeling I wasn’t there enough for her. This year I vow to make a new school year resolution and be a more present mother and live in the moment.
Building my blog to where it is today took so much work, so much sacrifice and so much hustle. When Summer was in daycare and I was working outside the home I used to feel like I was missing out on so many milestones. Once I went full time blogging I thought I would have more time to devote to her but the drive to grow my brand took precedence. I do feel an immense amount of guilt over that but at the same time I know I am teaching my daughter what it takes to make your dream a reality. I am teaching her about entrepreneurship, dedication and what it takes to have down right grit and hustle.
This was the first summer since she was born that I had her home with me. In front of my face I watched how much she has changed and blossomed over these past few months. While I would never give up my drive and dedication to work I am promising her and myself to carve out time with no interruptions to just be with her.
Watching her love of fashion continue to evolve obviously warms my heart. She loves to shop, style outfits and accessorize. Some people tell me I’m in trouble for instilling that in her but honestly what is wrong with that? The basis of HOLB has always been to mix highs and lows and she is learning to shop on a budget without sacrificing style.
This school year we went to Famous Footwear to prepare her for a new school year. With a demanding schedule of school, gymnastics, cheer and dance on her agenda we needed shoes to make her shine and feel confident but to also prep her feet for whatever is on her schedule that day.
Let me just say we had a blast shopping at Famous Footwear. First off the staff were so accommodating with helping us find shoes to fit her busy lifestyle.
From hundreds of brands such as Nike, Skechers, Adidas and more Summer was able to find sneakers for the everyday, stylish shoes that make a statement and slides to wear in between her activities.
This kid is a powerhouse. There’s no denying that. She can go into this school year walking a little taller (yes she’s finally gaining some inches), feeling confident and knowing she is loved. Famous Footwear believes everyone deserves to feel a little famous and this kid can abide by that. I am so proud of her zest for life and her patience with me as her mother. I can learn a lot from her.
My new school year resolution is to be there more this year Summer. Everything I do, everything I sacrifice is for you but I know sometimes all you need is for me to just be with you. So even if it’s just a slurpee date after school or an extra 5 minute cuddle session (tacked onto the existing 30 minute cuddle session) I promise to be there more. New year. New shoes. New promises. Let’s make this school year an amazing one.
