MASTER BEDROOM REFRESH WITH RAYMOUR & FLANIGAN

New Year. New bedroom. Well sort of. Erik and I have been married for 12 years but the one thing we never got was a new bedroom set. We have each added pieces to the room that were passed on from family members and a few years ago we did get a new king size bed. However, nothing really matched. We really didn’t want to do a complete bedroom overhaul as we have sentimental attachment to a few pieces but we wanted to do a master bedroom refresh. So we partnered with Raymour & Flanigan to give new life to our room!

BEFORE

So here is the before of our master bedroom. Not terrible by any means but you can see how pieces didn’t quite go together. The dark leather bed didn’t really compliment the grays in the room.

We had tried to brighten the space last year and painted the room gray. However, in order to do a proper master bedroom refresh we needed to get a new bed. Afterall, the bed is the focal point to any bedroom.

AFTER

Erik I decided on the Odette King Bed. We love the tufted details on this bed. It’s a grand bed but would match with an array of decor styles. Being our room is pretty eclectic with our existing furniture we wanted to make sure it would stand out while still matching seamlessly with what we have.

I love the neutral color in this bed. The padded headboard also makes it comfy to sit in bed and watch tv or read.

We didn’t just do a master bedroom refresh for aesthetic reasons. The other driving force was our backs. They say you should update your mattress every 10 years or so. Our old mattress was pretty much at the end of it’s life span and let me tell you — we could feel it in our backs.

On our trip to Raymour & Flanigan we tried out a ton of beds. While you can shop online I personally love shopping in the showroom as it’s always such a great experience. Erik and I also decided to add the adjustable base to the bed. The Reverie 3EM king adjustable base allows us to choose from 3 leg heights to fit our bed frame and program 3 headrest/footrest positions: flat, head up and head down. It also comes with a wireless remote. This has been a great feature for several reasons. I often work in bed late at night so it’s easy to relax in bed but sit up comfortably to work. It’s also great for those nights you feel congested and sleeping on an incline makes for easier breathing.

The bed was the main feature of our master bedroom refresh but I did a few things here and there to really complete the room. Awhile back I had chalk painted the dresser myself. The dresser belonged to my Dad and I had taken it when he passed away 17 years ago. New paint and new hardware goes a long way!

I also had chalk painted and stenciled an old armoire that Erik uses to store his clothes. And lastly, small touches like painting our curtain rods, the blades on our ceiling fan and getting a new comforter with pillows all contributed to giving our master bedroom a full on refresh while staying within the budget we wanted.
