Going to Philly for a work trip? How about a girls getaway? Or maybe you are like me and just want a quick trip with your significant other. All I know is I needed to shake the kid for a night. But even if you can’t shake the kids and have to bring them with you Philly’s newest hotel is the place to stay. My Canopy by Hilton Philadelphia review will give you the 411 on everything you need to know to make your stay unforgettable!
THE LOCATION
Newly opened in August 2020 Canopy by Hilton Philadelphia is in the heart of Center City in Midtown Village. The hotel is steps away from Reading Terminal Market, the Fashion District, City Hall and the Convention Center. The hotel even offers complimentary Canopy bikes for touring around the city. Honestly, you can’t beat the location. Everything is right there yet you are on a quiet, quaint street that has a ton of charm.
THE CANOPY HOTEL EXPERIENCE
If you aren’t familiar with Canopy Hotels they are a branch of Hilton that deliver a boutique feel intertwining local experience with lots of extras to make you feel welcome and right at home. No stuffy, pretentious hotel feeling at all. You get luxury while feeling completely homely. All guests are greeted with a welcome bag, free WIFI and complimentary Canopy bikes for touring your hotel’s neighborhood.
Each space uses local art and furnishings inspired by the location’s neighborhood. The design of Canopy by Hilton Philadelphia is brought to life by it’s bold energy, colors and patterns. All inspired by Philly’s vibrant history of art and culture.
The hotel plays homage to Philly’s linage of hip hop culture by using the early looks “Big Fashion” which they display throughout the hotel in their vibrant fabrics and eye catching materials. The beautiful lobby offers a ton of plush couches and chairs to sink into to enjoy coffee, a cocktail or catch up on some work.
While I didn’t get a workout in I would love to hit the gym on our next stay. Yes! They even had Pelotons and you all know this “Pelotonian” appreciates that!
THE ROOMS & SUITES
Canopy by Hilton Philadelphia offers a variety of rooms ranging from 1 King bed or 2 Queen beds all equipped with free WIFI, a 55 inch TV, Nespresso machine, refrigerated drawer under the counter, and luxury bathroom amenities.
They also offer a 1 King Bed 1 Bedroom Premium Suite which is what we stayed in. The room was massive and gave us not only a huge master bedroom and large living area, but 1 full bathroom and a 1/2 bathroom.
Especially noteworthy is Canopy Hilton’s commitment to health and safety. The hotel participates in the Hilton CleanStay Program which delivers an industry defining standard of cleanliness and disinfection in Hilton properties around the world. Everything was so new and clean throughout the hotel, but the rooms were exceptional. The remotes are covered with plastic, disinfecting wipes are available throughout the room and hotel property and the rooms are well disinfected especially in high touch areas. Makes traveling during Covid so much less stressful.
But let’s talk about the beds because that is truly one of the hallmarks of the Canopy Hotels. The signature Canopy beds have gel memory foam and Serta Cool Balance Technology. Honestly, it was the best night’s sleep I’ve had in a long time. Granted I didn’t have Summer crawling into my bed in the middle of the night, but you get my drift.
Every room also features local touches and contemporary design, influenced by the fashion and musical history of the Midtown Village neighborhood.Ā So much thought has gone into every inch of designing the hotel and while it’s stunning in person it’s also got such a vibrant, stylish and artful vibe.
WHERE TO EAT? THE WAYWARD
And what’s a hotel stay without dinner? The Wayward is the signature restaurant at Canopy by Hilton Philadelphia and truly one you should experience. The restaurant offers 90 interior seats and al fresco seating for 30 on their patio. We ate outside under the beautiful lights and it might be one of my favorite dining experiences ever.
The Wayward is an American Brasserie that mixes American classics with a touch of French bistros. The restaurant is influenced by Stephen Girard’s journey from Bordeaux to Philadelphia. It emulates a “wayward” sentiment of “off the beaten path.” We were treated to the Chef’s tasting which I highly recommend. The Wayward is known for their oysters and gin selection which were some of the best we’ve ever had. The flavors and dishes were so different. Reminded me of comfort food and bursting with flavor. If I could repeat that meal a million times I would. The restaurant also had such a cool vibe. Easy to have a conversation, chill music and great service.
BOOK YOUR NEXT STAY
I don’t ever think I’ve ever seen another chain of hotels that incorporate the city’s culture into their hotel like Canopy does. From the restaurants to the decor, everything Canopy does has so much culture and history. Whether we want a quick couples getaway, a girls weekend or we bring Summer with us — it’s the spot for us. The hotel is also very kid and pet friendly in case you do plan to travel with your squad. We haven’t traveled much since Covid but rest assured we felt safe and appreciated the extra mile Canopy by Hilton Philadelphia has gone to make their guests feel that way.
