This might actually be the 3rd time we’ve painted the interior of the house in the almost 9 years we have been here. What can I say? I love changing the house around just like I love changing my fashion. We have a TON of home projects in the works but first up was painting. The easiest way to change a room is to paint it. I just wanted to freshen things up so today I’m bringing you our home makeover using Chantilly Lace paint from Benjamin Moore.
SHOP THE POST:
I learned early on that white paint ain’t easy friends. So many variations to choose from. Ultimately I decided our home makeover using Chantilly Lace was the best bet as it has no undertones. No creams, no grays, no blues. It’s just a very neutral white and one that is trending for that very reason.
FAMILY ROOM
I’ll break this post down by rooms this way you can shop some of the items I added into the house. As you may recall, I had recently updated our furniture when I partnered with Raymour & Flanigan last year. You can see tons of before photos in that post. I was able to keep pretty much all the decor in the house just by moving things around and adding in some additional new pieces all from Target, Pottery Barn, Walmart, Hobby Lobby, Homesense and Michael’s.
Erik had painted the walls a taupy gray in this room prior but the white really made the room so much brighter. I moved the area rug from this room into our dining room and I picked this new one up for under $200. Actually Erik picked it out (I trained him well). He loves a shag combo so this one was right up his alley.
Everything else I pretty much kept the same other than adding in some pillows. I had saved all my pennies for the oversized mirror from Horchow and really think the mirror stands out so much more now.

As for my picks in decor for our home — I love a touch of farmhouse modern. Personally I think the full on farmhouse trend is starting to die out and I was never a full fan of it. BUT with that being said I love certain aspects of it. I love animal prints, some rustic finishes and gold/bronze metals. When doing a home makeover using Chantilly Lace paint you’ll want to warm things up being the color is so neutral. So it’s suggested to use decor featuring gold, natural grasses, dark metals and natural woods. You’ll see how I incorporated those details in throughout the house.
DINING ROOM
This had to be the hardest room to really see a transformation. I decided to keep 2 dark walls in the house. We had these walls painted Kendall Charcoal when we originally bought our house. I still loved them so decided to keep them just to break up the white a bit. The adjacent walls were a dusty blue and our painter had to prime and put 3 coats on the blue in this room to make it look white. I think the gray wall was giving off a reflection and then the skylights so it was a bit of work. BUT once the ceiling was painted it all came together.
HA! Do you see the bunny under the table? That’s his new spot. Anywho — I also changed out the drapes and added white ones throughout the house. And I’m just now contemplating chalk painting that green cabinet at some point. Going back to farmhouse modern — the dining room chairs and rustic table have been great ways to add that element into our decorating.

Our fireplace was originally brick but years ago I had it painted Monterey White from Benjamin Moore. I was going to paint it Chantilly Lace also but I just think the ivory tones of the Monterey White added a more cozy feel to the house so I left it. You can see some of the natural grasses I added in on the mantle though to soften the white in the room.
FORMAL LIVING ROOM
This room is really my motivation for doing a home makeover using Chantilly Lace paint. I always love this cozy room but it was just starting to feel drab to me. I LOVE how this room came out. This is probably the one room where I changed the decor the most.
RUG | COW PICTURE | HORSE PICTURE | WALL SCONCES | MAGNOLIA WREATH
I added the rug and tables to keep a somewhat modern vibe flowing but then added in the animal art and magnolia wreathe to bring that touch of farmhouse to the room.
KITCHEN
Aside from painting the only update I made in the kitchen during our home makeover using Chantilly Lace paint were to the light fixtures. I had a gorgeous crystal chandelier prior but it was trimmed in a modern metal. Told ya — I used to LOVE modern. I have been wanting something more traditional with that touch of modern farmhouse we were talking about so I found these pendants at Pottery Barn and love how they totally changed the feel in our kitchen.
LIGHT FIXTURES | KITCHEN CHAIRS
It always blows my mind how 1 simple update can change so much. To me the kitchen just feels so much different than before.
FOYER
RUG | OVERSIZED LANTERNS
The foyer is still a work in progress. We will be changing out the tile floor as it’s old as mold but that may have to wait till after the holidays. I also only bought that mirrored buffet a few years ago so I didn’t want to change it out. So I spray painted the mirror above it to get some gold into the entry way, added the rug and chalk painted the foyer console tables a dark charcoal. I also ordered candle wall sconces to go on each side of the circle mirror but they won’t arrive until after Christmas.
And I didn’t get a great photo of it but going up the stairs I have a gallery wall of family photos. I had more frames prior to painting but toned it down this time around.
So that’s our home makeover using Chantilly Lace paint. What do you think? Personally we love it. All these years I have been looking for the perfect beige, gray or cream. Go figure. White is all the rage right now and I can totally see why. It really adds such warmth and natural beauty to your own. Can’t wait to share the next round of home updates with you. More to come soon! And PS: If you are local to me and need a painter send me a message. HIGHLY recommend our painter. He is amazing, reliable and does such great work.
Tammy, my dear niece. Your decor has come a lllooonnnggg way from “Starry night”. Love your new look. it seems you choose a really sunny day for your house tour. Living in Florida I love the sunny looks which I think always compliments any decor. I also love the farmhouse look but it would be impossible for me to even think about changing my “Cracker Barrel with less tables decor”. You know how much I LOVE STUFF! But that does not mean that I don’t admire other decor. Which I do as I can often “steal” an idea. Your decorating talent is very evident. Looks great. You did a “gorgeous” job as usual. Love from Aunt Jeanie
